You can start and end the autumn vacation with a dog show. This autumn, we started in Riga and ended with the Nord and International Dog Show in Seinäjoki. The show in Seinäjoki is always neatly organized and a special shout out goes to the separate parking lot for large vehicles and the staff managing the area.
The show went well. Amanda and Petra took care of the grooming and presentation of the dogs.

I went on a fun trip with Erja and Salla to Riga. The hotel was unable to bring in an extra bed after three requests. The bed situation was finally resolved when Anu Pajulampi handled it. The hotel's young receptionist retrived the wrong kinds of blanket, pillows, pillowcases and sheets as well as a duvet cover. But, in the end we manage to find a spot for Salla.
At the restaurant, we were told the opening hours were from 18 - 22:00. The staff wasn't thrilled due to the hour long preparation our food orders required. After our meal, at 21:00 the restaurant was closed.
The shows went very well. The hunt for parking was a sucess as there was plenty of space on the edge of the ring. In the ring, everything went smoothly. Erja was responsible for grooming and presenting Alina. Thank you Erja!

Next on the health checkup list was ”Demi” and ”Carmen”. The ladies had an eye examination at a public inspection organized by Maija Löytölä at the Pori race track. ”Demi” was good to go and ”Carmen” only had an extra few eyelashes.

Lynxfelsen Galle ”Viltsu” had been sick the past year with many diseases including lameness, ear infection and wounds that took time to heal. There are risks for active wokring dogs. Viltsu came back from these setbacks in time for the German Shepherd Dog Association's Finnish Championship. The races were his first with little experience in competition and it was visible during the performance. With more exercising and competitions he's sure to gain confidence for future showings.
Länsi-Häme's SPL subdivision, represented by Jussi, won the gold medal. The other team members whom participated were: Marianne Saari, Kim Floström and Jusa Koivisto.
Now we wish for healthy days and good training for Viltsu.

It was a full day of wind gusts, drizzle, pouring rain, sleet and sunshine at the Riihimäki International Dog Show. With the right attitude and cover we were able to persevere and despite the ever-changing weather the day went smoothly. Amanda's participation, representing Big Paw's breeding group, in the breed and big rings was the icing on the cake. In the BIS breeder's ring, a big red rosette was given to the group. Congratulations to Eija, John and the whole Big Paw's team.

Sari ja ”Immi” (Argentonero Sorpresa DellÁlba) participated in the temperment test at Somero's' Haukkukalliolla. The event was organized by the Finnish Miniature Schnauzer's Club. The judges for the test were Tuija Juselius and Carita Koskinen.
The test result is registered as the final score. Scoring for each section is structured in a way that so that the characteristics of working and hard-level hobby dogs receive the highest points. However, the dog with the highest score does not necessarily mean that dog is suited to be the best companion dog.
In miniature schnauzers, character is defined by temperment, intelligence, fearlessness and tenacity. These character traits make a small dog, like miniature schnauzers, a good watchdog and companion dog fit to live in even a small apartment space. Today's miniature schnauzers are companion dogs that should be able to adapt to different family and living conditions.
The test results confirm that ”Immi” is a nice companion dog.

The Traveling ladies, me, Salla and three dogs headed for Tyynenmerenkatu in Helsinki, the location of Tallink Silja's terminal.
The construction of a new tram line in downtown Tallinn continues. Despite all of the changes, we were able to get the hotel safe and secure.
The dog show was in the Luige Fairgrounds, a familiar place for us except this time, the area for the dog show was smaller. The tent area was a challenge to get through but we managed like champions.
The busy day came with referee changes for the black-silver dogs. Fortunately, the rings were right next to each other. ”Alina” was the queen of the day winning her third Baltic Winner title.

After a 409 km, 4 hour and fifty minute drive we arrived in Kuopio, the pearl of the region of Pohjois-Savo. We stayed at the dog-friendly Hotel IsoValkeinen.
It was a three-day event. However, we only participated in the International exhibition on Sunday.

When you have the ladies from the Pitkänen family, even a big car feels small. With careful precision, everything that was needed fit inside just right. It was a sunny and hot time in Tallinn. Rain was forecasted but never came.
As always, when on a trip with the Pitkänen women, there was good company and good food.

Alina's great success in Estonia, Latvia and the Special Breed Show in Mainiemi convinced me to enter her into the Norway Winner 2024, Oslo Winner 2024 and Cruft's 2025 Qualification in Sandefjord, Norway. Her bags were packed and she was on her way with Salla, Karita and dogfriends Smokey and Niilo.
We could not have imagined the success Alina would have with "Best of Breed" in all three shows and two brand new titles to go along with it.

A dog-filled weekend ends with a good decision. After Lynxfelesen Bando "Jare" retired, we had to come up with something to do with him. We decided on a new racing career and it was started out well. Of course you have to train a lot. In Jare, there is passion, strength and joy in doing things. Thanks to Kirsi Kivinen, Marika Johansson and Juha Juhala for guiding us to the wonderful world of Toko.

Miniature schnauzers are multi-talented. For example, Sulo is turning into a fine mushroom hunting dog. Golden chanterelles can be found with ease with enough practice.
